Jacksonville Team Competes In Pop Warner National Championship At Disney

The Sweetwater Hawks (Jacksonville, FL) will compete for a national championship at the 54th Pop Warner Super Bowl at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on December 11. The Hawks, who won their semi-final game 22-0, will take on the Beacon House Falcons (Washington, D.C.) in the Junior Pee Wee Division I Super Bowl title game.

Sixty-four teams from across the United States and as far away as Hawaii battled their way through regional competition to advance to compete in the weeklong National Championship, the Super Bowl of youth football where many past and present NFL stars took their first snaps. National champions will be decided in four divisions based on age and weight; Jr. Pee Wee (ages 8–11), Pee Wee (ages 9– 12), Jr. Midget (ages 10–13) and Midget (ages 11–15).

Many NFL players got their starts playing Pop Warner. The NFL Players Association estimates roughly 70 percent of current NFL players, including Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars), Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow (Denver Broncos) played Pop Warner as youngsters.
