JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – CarbuX Car Wash provided veterans and military personnel with 302 free car washes  —complete with red, white and blue soap — on Nov. 11 to honor these men and women for their service. All three CarbuX Car Wash locations offered the free car washes as part of the international Grace for Vets program.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Today’s tough economy, combined with an increasing focus on eating healthy and organic foods, have made community gardening one of the hottest trends in urban areas across the country.

Second Harvest North Florida and Friends of Northeast Florida Community Gardens are working together to nurture that trend in Jacksonville. They are collectively sponsoring the inaugural Northeast Florida Community Gardens Conference on Nov. 3.

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The Young Survivors Group at the Women’s Center of Jacksonville will be able to continue to help young breast cancer survivors thanks to a recent $1,000 grant won through Community First Credit Union’s Investing in You contest. The grant will help secure a location for monthly meetings, provide educational materials and fund outreach efforts for the Young Survivors Group.

The grant will help launch The S.T.A.R. group, named for the benefits the group will bring its members: support, teaching, advocacy and respect.

Camp for Children Coping with Homicide Receives Support from Community First Credit Union

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Community First Credit Union awarded a $1,000 Investing in You grant to Compassionate Families, Inc., to benefit Camp Maddie, its therapeutic camp that provides grief recovery and support services to children affected by homicide. Camp Maddie serves as a living memorial to Maddie Clifton, an eight-year-old Jacksonville girl who was brutally murdered by her young neighbor in 1998.
