United Way of Northeast Florida Honors Local Business | Community Spirit
The United Way of Northeast Florida has awarded the inaugural Corporate Engagement Award to MSC Care Management for excellence in employee engagement and community service in areas impacting education, income and health. It was presented recently at the United Way Sponsorship Breakfast at the Omni Hotel.
Employee engagement and community service are deeply engrained in the MSC culture. In an effort to further empower employees, MSC hosts a CEO Circle each quarter, inviting selected employees to present to the executive team ideas that have the potential to better the company as a whole.
Emerging from the company’s fourth quarter CEO Circle was the idea for MSCares, an employee-run volunteer outreach program. The group implemented “Volunteer Day” to engage in special projects with Jacksonville-based charities. On each volunteer day, 25 employees donate their time and energy to a nonprofit or charity identified through a partnership with United Way. In addition to their time, MSC makes a $1,000 donation to each chosen organization.
“Our Executive Leadership Team is proud to enable employees to give back to our community and charities we care about,” said Will Smith, Senior Vice President of Home Health and Equipment and Device Management. “Our associates return to work with a renewed sense of pride and commitment, eager to volunteer again.”
In 2011, MCS held six volunteer days with a total of 150 employees participating and donating approximately 1,200 hours of time. At end of the year, a children’s Christmas party was held, drawing over 100 employee volunteers.
