14th Annual Mandarin Chili Cook-Off November 13, 2010

The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Mandarin Council is a strong advocate for community outreach programs. Our members assist in funding various school and community projects through an initiative called “Community Support.” One of the main fundraising vehicles for our program is the Annual Mandarin Chili Cook-Off, which will be held Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Panera Bread which is loacted at 11111 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223.

SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular

Halloween meets the sea during SeaWorld's Halloween Spooktacular, featuring an underwater "fantasea" where children can trick-or-treat, meet amazing sea creatures, catch silly and spooky shows and help Sesame Street's Abby Cadabby through an amazing adventure to find her magic wand.

SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular takes place October 9-10, 16-17, 23-24, and 29-31. The daytime event begins at 12 p.m., leaving the littlest of trick-or-treaters wide-eyed for the fun-filled activities.  Visit SeaWorldSpooktacular.com for more details. 

Haunt Nights: Northeast Florida’s Newest Haunted Attraction at the Adventure Landing Jax Beach

Adventure Landing has announced that they will be hosting a multi-day haunted event called HAUNT NIGHTS.  Haunt Nights is Northeast Florida’s newest haunted attraction and will debut at the Adventure Landing’s Jacksonville Beach location on Friday, October 9th.  Haunt Nights will continue on select dates through October 31.  A complete operating schedule is available by clicking this link:  http://www.hauntnights.com/schedule.html.

New TV Season Brings New Hits and Duds

Highlights:

DOA. Every season brings a couple of clunkers. Last week brought four: Fox's Lone Star (4.1 million viewers) was the weakest of the bunch — and became the season's first casualty Tuesday, to be replaced by Lie to Me starting next week. But ABC's The Whole Truth and My Generation and NBC's Outlaw, in Friday's time-slot debut, are all on life support.

8th Annual Buddy Walk Benefitting The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville

The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville is excited to announce the 8th Annual Buddy Walk will take place this Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Jacksonville Beach Pavilion.  The 1-mile walk is the largest fundraiser of the year for the DSAJ and the local chapter’s goal is to raise $150,000.  Brand new this year is the 5K run, which will immediately precede the walk @ 8am.

Annual Pumpkin Patch Opens Saturday at Southside United Methodist Church

Hundreds of pumpkins will be hitting the town on Saturday, October 2nd as the youth of Southside United Methodist Church (SUMC) set up for the start of PUMPKINS ON THE POINT!   We invite the community to enjoy the fun as “the point,” between Hendricks Avenue and San Jose Blvd, grows one pumpkin at a time into a very sincere pumpkin patch.

Alhambra Actors to Join Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for "The Pirates of Penzance"

Actors from the nation’s longest running professional dinner theatre will take the stage with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for a special production of The Pirates of Penzance, set to invade Jacoby Symphony Hall at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts on October 1-3. Conducted by Michael Butterman, a stellar cast from the new Alhambra Theatre & Dining under the direction of Tod Booth will sing and dance to live music by the Jacksonville Symphony in one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s wittiest comic operettas.  Performances are Friday and Saturday, October 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 3 at 3 p.m. Information and tickets are available through the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Box Office at (904) 354-5547 or online at www.jaxsymphony.org.
