Starting Saturday, October 1st the front lawn of Jacksonville’s Southside United Methodist Church (SUMC), AKA “The Point”’ will be covered with pumpkins for PUMPKINS ON THE POINT! We invite the community to join in the fun of this annual tradition.

Bank of America to Charge $5 a Month for Debit Cards


NEW YORK (AP) - Bank of America plans to start charging customers a $5 monthly debit card fee.

The fee will be rolled out starting early next year.

A Bank of America Corp. spokeswoman says customers will only be charged the fee if they use their debit cards for purchases in any given month. Customers won't be charged if they only use their cards at an ATM.

Daily deal site LivingSocial hit a record selling pace Tuesday with an offer at Whole Foods Market Inc., its first nationwide grocery deal.

The offer let shoppers buy $20 worth of products at Whole Foods for $10. LivingSocial said it was selling roughly 115,000 an hour, which company spokesman Andrew Weinstein said is its fastest-selling offer ever. That's about 30 deals sold per second.

 Since 1987, Walmart® and Sam’s Club® have been hosting balloon icon campaigns. During the 2011 campaign that ran from May 1 through June 11, the Sam’s Club on Busch Drive was able to raise $42,000 for our local area hospitals, Shands Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital, both of which are Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

To assist them with these healthy choices, the Jacksonville Florida Blue center invites local seniors and their families to its free Health Seminar observing Senior Wellness Month on September 10.

Some of my earliest memories I have of my Grandfather are of him in his wood shop in the garage of my grandparents house.  Papa was always making something and I just loved being down there, hanging out with him.  I remember the smells of sawdust and wood glue.  I remember he was always in his overalls and had at least two thick charcoal pencils in his chest pocket at all times.  There was always a saw of some sort going and loudly playing over the sound of the saw was the melodious tunes coming from his old radio.

According to Survey, Number of Workers Living Paycheck to Paycheck at Pre-Recession Levels

As the U.S. keeps a close eye on the stock market; CareerBuilder’s survey shows the financial situation for some households is improving. Forty-two percent of workers say they usually or always live paycheck to paycheck, an improvement from 43 percent in 2010 and in line with levels seen back in 2007. The number of workers who have missed a bill payment has decreased year-over-year; one-in-five (20 percent) say they have missed payments on bills in the last year, slightly improved from 22 percent at this time last year. This is according to a new nationwide survey of more than 5,200 workers by CareerBuilder that was conducted from May 18 to June 3, 2011.
