Crash Injures Driver, Knocks Out Power to Restaurant

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A driver suffered critical injuries after a loud "pop" preceded a crash into a pole and a fence.

The crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. on Old St. Augustine Road north of Hood/Hartley.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at the scene, witnesses reported hearing the "pop" sound before the driver, whose name has not been released, veered off the Road, striking a utility pole that knocked out power to a nearby Dick's Wings restaurant.

No homes lost power, JSO said.

The driver was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
