Duval issues first rabies alert of the year
News

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Duval County Health Department announced a rabies alert for the Greenland Road area of Mandarin, effective through Sept. 20, 2012.

The area affected is bordered on the north by the intersecton of Columbia Park Drive and Columbia Park Drive West, the east by Greenland Chase Boulevard and Hazelmoor Court, the south by Old St. Augustine Road at Interstate-95 and the west by Fallbridge Court at I-95.

This is the county's first rabies alert of the year.

A rabid fox in the Greenland area prompted the alert. An investigation determined that human exposure was made, according to the DCHD press release.

The department says owners should confine their animals and confirm that each one has received a current rabies immunization shot.
