JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- The Department of Transportation held multiple presentations Tuesday evening to inform drivers about the express lanes coming to Jacksonville.
Drivers would pay a toll for the lanes, but the amount varies based on how heavy traffic is on the road.
The express lanes are part of a 5 year program.
Existing lanes would be free, so drivers would only pay a toll to use lanes with less traffic.
"People will have a choice. They can either get into an express lane and pay a fee or just stay in the free lane. And we're going to be widening 295 and express lanes will be a part of it," said Mike Goldman with the Florida Department of Transportation.
The lanes will be in several locations on I-295: from I-95 to the Dames Point Bridge, from JTB to State road 9B, and from 95 to the Buckman Bridge.
