First Coast Gears: Cars & Coffee, Big George show | News
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A dreary day couldn't keep car and motorcyclist enthusiasts away from the 4th Annual Big George Car and Bike Show last Saturday. The annual event honored the life and memory of George Wolfe, a guy that loved hot rods, bikes, loud music, food and being surrounded by folks having fun.
Held at Adamec Harley-Davidson on Baymeadows, music was provided by Rip Currents while local car clubs brought along their rides.
Among the modern classics was Oscar Toledo's 2010 Dodge Challenger, which he's customized with a Christian motif. "Well my Challenger, I use it as a way to get people to know God and to give them Bibles for those that don't have any. Not just for adults but also for kids," said Toledo.
The engine bay features a dress-up kit that Toledo purchased online. He then had a Middleburg fireman paint it with crosses.
Other custom touches include a custom hidden headlights grille, LED lighting throughout and a monster sound system.
A few miles away, some of the same cruisers attended the monthly Automotive Addicts Cars and Coffee cruise-in at Wild Wing Cafe.
Starting January 12, 2013 the cruise-in will be moving to Whiskey River at The Markets at Town Center.
Friends Malcolm Hogan and Bill Kamke started the Automotive Addicts Cars and Coffee in 2009. Held on the second Saturday of each month, the cruise-ins average about 70 cars or so, although Hogan says they've seen as many as 200.
All makes and models are welcome, but Cars and Coffee tends to get more exotic and modern cars. The cruise-in is named for automotiveaddicts.com, which is a locally-based automotive website that Hogan publishes.
Cars and Coffee is returning to its roots. It was first started at the St. Johns Town Center before moving to River City Marketplace and then to Wild Wing Cafe at Tinseltown.
Hogan said given that Whiskey River is owned by NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the establishment has promised to be very accommodating, it just seemed like a natural fit.
