JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Communities In Schools of Jacksonville CEO Jon Heymann is one of two individual winners in the United States to win the National Dropout Prevention Network (NDPN) Crystal Star Award of Excellence in Dropout Recovery, Intervention and Prevention. JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Orthodontists at Jacksonville University are taking time during October’s National Orthodontic Health Month to educate the public and clarify best practices for the maintenance of your smile.

Dr. Mark Alarbi, dean and program director of the Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics, said there are many myths that need to be busted regarding orthodontic care, but one of the most common misconceptions is that parents need to wait for their children to loose all of their baby teeth before evaluating the need for braces.

Kids Helping Kids Program Raises More Than $38,000 for Dreams Come True

 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- With graduations coming to a close and the summer starting, Dreams Come True is proud to announce 19 schools participated in the Kids Helping Kids program during the 2011-2012 school year. The schools raised $38,431 and sponsored the dreams of 19 local children battling life-threatening illnesses.

Walmart Foundation will provide summer learning and meals for middle school students

 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Duval County Public Schools was recently awarded the District Summer Learning Initiative grant through the Walmart Foundation in the amount of $750,000 over two years to serve 800 youth in the 2012 Superintendent’s Summer Academy Programs. At a time when school districts around the country are curtailing summer learning programs in response to budget cuts, the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) received a $4 million grant from the Walmart Foundation to provide more than 7,000 summer learning opportunities for middle school students.

Duval County School Board Hosts Community Meetings on Superintendent Search

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Duval County School Board will be talking with the community about the ongoing search for a new Superintendent.

Duval County public schools belong to the citizens of Jacksonville.  As such, Duval County School Board members want extensive citizen and employee involvement in selecting the next Superintendent. 

Below is a schedule of the meetings.  Parents and community members are encouraged to attend to provide additional information that will help determine the qualities desired in a new Superintendent.
