Duval County Public Schools Five School Boundary Review Process

 Duval County Public Schools is starting a boundary review process for five schools in the Southeast quadrant of the district.
 
A community working group of 30-40 representatives will review information and propose a plan to the community on October 3. The schools that are currently being reviewed are Beauclerc, Hogan Spring Glen, Southside Estates, Twin Lakes Academy and Windy Hill elementary schools.

Duval County Public Schools Receives Grant to Assist Recently-Arrived Immigrant Children

Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) has been awarded a grant in the amount of $505,014.83 from the Florida Department of Education to assist recently-arrived immigrant children and youth in grades K-12.

These funds will be used to provide supplemental high quality instruction to assist these students' transition into American society and to meet the same challenging state academic content and academic achievement that all students are expected to meet.

Duval County Public Schools Conducts Fundraiser with Moe’s Southwest Grill for J.V. Soccer

Several Duval County Public Schools’ high school coaches will conduct a fundraiser in conjunction with Moe’s Southwest Grill to raise money for J.V. soccer. The fundraiser will take place on Monday, September 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the four participating locations listed below.

Moe’s Southwest Grill will donate a percentage of their net sales earned on this day between the specified hours to help keep J.V. soccer in Duval County public schools for the 2011-12 school year.

Duval County School Board Announces Superintendent’s Evaluation

Duval County School Board members today provided Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals with his evaluation for the 2010/2011 school year. 

The Superintendent was evaluated in seven areas of responsibility, including relationships with the Board, community relationships, staff and organizational relationships, educational leadership, fiscal leadership, personal qualities and an overall performance rating.

New Sports Program with Coach Virdell Hayden to begin at The Foundation Academy

The Foundation Academy will begin the 2011-2012 school year with a new coed sports program focusing on three sports seasons – flag football, basketball, and soccer. In addition to the intramural program will be 3-4 sports camps, including conditioning/running, baseball/softball, and volleyball. The new program will be open to students 6th grade and above. TFA’s first sport season, flag football, will begin on September 12th.

Several Duval County Sports Programs Saved for the 2011-12 School Year

Duval County Public Schools held a press conference today to announce that the funds have been raised to save tennis, golf and cross-country for the 2011-12 school year. Thanks to the efforts of 1st Place Sports Running Club, First Coast Tennis Foundation and North Florida Junior Golf, $43,724 was raised for each sport to keep them in Duval County public schools. In addition, Mayor Brown announced that $236,250 was raised to save middle school football as a result of contributions from private organizations, including the Jacksonville Sharks.

High School Football Games Moved Due to Irene

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Due to Hurricane Irene, changes have been made to several high school football games across the First Coast.

 

Several schools have rescheduled their Kick-Off Classics that were originally scheduled for Friday to Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 7:00 P.M.
