Jacksonville United FC Helps to Save Cancelled Duval Countysports Programs

Jacksonville United FC will donate proceeds from their National Premiere Soccer League game against the Knoxville Force on June 25 to the Save Our Sports fundraising effort.  Proceeds from ticket sales and all donations made at the game will go toward funding boys’ and girls’ junior varsity high school soccer programs in Duval County.  The game will be played at 7 PM at Mandarin High School (4831 Greenland Road Jacksonville, FL 32258).

Jacksonville Giants Host Summer Basketball Camps

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Coming off a very successful inaugural season, the Jacksonville Giants are hosting a couple of basketball camps for kids this summer.

The Giants had a perfect regular season with a (23-0) record this past year, and they finished with a (24-2) mark.

This week, the team is wrapping up it's first basketball camp which is being held at Jacksonville Ice and Sportsplex.  A second camp will be held at Mandarin Christian School from July 18-22.  For more information on these camps, visit http://jacksonvillegiants.com.

Concussion Summit Educates Local Medical Community

This past weekend, June 4th, Brooks Rehabilitation hosted the 2011 Jacksonville Concussion Summit.  The event featured lectures by Robert Cantu, MD and Kevin Guskeiwicz, Ph.D., ATC on cutting edge knowledge and research on this most relevant topic.  Over 140 medical professionals were in attendance and participated in this summit.  The mission of the Jacksonville Sports Medicne Program who helped to produce this event is to make Jacksonville a safer place to play.  Sports concussions remain a hot topic and this event offered the latest research and insights into concussions for Physicians, Athletic Trainers and medical providers.  A special guest speaker was Florida Representative Ron Renuart, DO who sponsored recent concussion legislation in this past session.  This bill will help to educate parents and supporting youth in the safety of sports and will be re-introduced in the 2012 Legislative Session.

Mandarin HS Grad Leads UF Into Womens College World Series Finals

University of Florida center fielder Michelle Moultrie is a huge reason why the Gators are playing in the finals of the Womens College World Series.

The Mandarin High School graduate is batting .611 (11 for 18) during the Womens College World Series.  She also has hit 3 home runs during the WCWS despite only hitting 2 during the entire regular season.

Florida will play Arizona State in a best of three series beginning on Monday night at 8:00 p.m.  The winner of the series will win the national championship.

This is the second time in the last three years that the Lady Gators have advanced to the finals of the Womens College World Series.  They lost to Washington in 2009 when Moultrie was a freshman.
