Mandarin Park and Boat Ramp Closed Temporarily for Improvements

Mandarin Park and Boat Ramp will be closed to the public beginning Monday, Oct. 4 through the end of the year while the city makes improvements to the park and boat ramp.

Improvements include new ADA-compliant play equipment, new signage throughout the park as well as resurfacing and expanding the parking lot to add additional spaces. The park is expected to re-open early 2011.
 
During the closure, residents are encouraged to utilize other area parks and boat ramps which include:

SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular

Halloween meets the sea during SeaWorld's Halloween Spooktacular, featuring an underwater "fantasea" where children can trick-or-treat, meet amazing sea creatures, catch silly and spooky shows and help Sesame Street's Abby Cadabby through an amazing adventure to find her magic wand.

SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular takes place October 9-10, 16-17, 23-24, and 29-31. The daytime event begins at 12 p.m., leaving the littlest of trick-or-treaters wide-eyed for the fun-filled activities.  Visit SeaWorldSpooktacular.com for more details. 

New TV Season Brings New Hits and Duds

Highlights:

DOA. Every season brings a couple of clunkers. Last week brought four: Fox's Lone Star (4.1 million viewers) was the weakest of the bunch — and became the season's first casualty Tuesday, to be replaced by Lie to Me starting next week. But ABC's The Whole Truth and My Generation and NBC's Outlaw, in Friday's time-slot debut, are all on life support.

8th Annual Buddy Walk Benefitting The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville

The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville is excited to announce the 8th Annual Buddy Walk will take place this Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Jacksonville Beach Pavilion.  The 1-mile walk is the largest fundraiser of the year for the DSAJ and the local chapter’s goal is to raise $150,000.  Brand new this year is the 5K run, which will immediately precede the walk @ 8am.
