JCA Ranks at Top of Jewish Community Centers

The Jewish Community Alliance participated in a study by the umbrella organization for the Jewish Community Center Movement that measures member satisfaction and ranks the agency against some of its peers.

And, for the second year in a row, members rated the JCA staff and facility extremely high in key categories in the study by the JCC Association titled “JCC Excellence: Benchmarking.”

Alive After Five Kickoff Postponed, Starts April 7th

The 2011 Alive After Five Jacksonville season now begins next Thursday, April 7 at 5 p.m. with a performance by Jacksonville’s own Boogie Freaks. Dubbed the ultimate disco show band, Boogie Freaks are a full blown Las Vegas-style disco music show, incorporating outrageous and unique costuming, choreography and character play.

The historic Casa Marina Hotel and Restaurant in Jacksonville Beach has opened their Penthouse Lounge with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean for lunch service.  Lunch is now available 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.  Previously the lounge opened at 4 p.m. for cocktails and appetizers.


Chef Aaron Webb has designed a New Beach Cuisine menu for the penthouse luncheon that includes appetizers such as polenta sticks, salads including a goat cheese salad, sandwiches such as the chicken caesar wrap in herb tortilla and the mahi calypso. Sandwich prices start at $7.95 and entrees start at $11.95.

Local United Way Announces 2010-2011  Turnaround Campaign Results of more than $25 million

United Way of Northeast Florida announced today 2010-2011 Annual Campaign results of over $25 million – a turnaround campaign with a three percent increase over the previous year. This marks a significant improvement in giving since the economic downturn began in 2008.  These strong results will help address the human service needs across our community including United Way’s focus on keeping more than 10,000 students on track to high school graduation.

First Florida Credit Union Receives National Awards

First Florida Credit Union’s efforts in providing financial literacy programs were recognized with two Merit Awards at CUNA’s Marketing and Business Development Council’s 18th annual conference held March 16-19 in Las Vegas, NV.

“We are extremely proud of the recognition, as helping people build financial strength through hands-on educational programs is a core service which we provide,” said First Florida’s Senior Vice President Michelle Troha.

BlackFinn Goes Red and Raises Green for the American Heart Association

BlackFinn American Grille recently wrapped up a successful month-long fundraising and awareness campaign entitled “Go Red” in conjunction with American Heart Month.

Throughout February, BlackFinn cooked up special heart-healthy food and drink features, with proceeds from each sale benefiting the First Coast American Heart Association (AHA). In addition, BlackFinn also hosted a Go Red Happy Hour on February 4 featuring additional heart-healthy items, raffles and giveaways. In total, BlackFinn raised over $1,100 for the AHA. BlackFinn American Grille is located at 4840 Big Island Drive adjacent to St. Johns Town Center in the Markets at Town Center.
